Introduction
Cuetzalan is a small market town in the mountains to the East of Mexico City. It's population is mostly Indian from Nahuatl and Totonac origin which makes the area all the more fascinating and historically it's very rich.

The secular tradition of "Los Voladores" is yearly celebrated as well as the "Hupil" Feast and gathers all the "Voladores from the region.

Cuetzalan produces mainly coffee and wild vanilla as well. Nevertheless all these are only some of the faces we can see on the outside.

The innerworld of the area contains a large system of river caves, which have the potential to be the most extensive in Latin America, about this we know that if this is truth it won't be the first time our natural ressources will marvel the world.

A series of caving expeditions have explored a total of about 100km of cave passage since the mid 70s. The original explorers were halted by a series of obstacles including boulder filled collapsed passages, whirlpools and the sheer length and arduous nature of the caves. But indeed these dangers push speleologist to keep in mind their goal which is to document and survey methodically the caves without fearing the dangers implied.

Recent exploration by a series of British expeditions has passed all of these and consequently extended the principal cave in the area from 22km to 35km in length. The same group of cavers as well as some Mexican spelologists, have spent years of their life dedicated to survey and explore these caves over and over again, never discouraged and careless about dangers nor fatigue.

After two years of careful planning, this Expedition has set as one of the main objectives to find out if the longest cave system in Latin America is situated in the mountains of the Sierra Poblana. As an attempt to prove this theory, the cavers are planning to explore a possible connection between two systems that have remained inaccessible until nowadays due to high risk and difficulty.

This challenge might be achieved in two possible ways: either a team will enter one system and will exit by the other one or maybe two teams will go underground and they will meet somewhere inside the caves..
