Alpazat Nears Atepolihuit San Andres
and a Slapstick Field!

After having analysed the survey data produced by the Alpazat team, two exciting things became apparent:

First, the passage pushed by Tony and John, then extended by Tony, Pete, Geordie and Kev is now very close to the end of San Andres. According to our survey, it is within about 20M horizontally and above the limit of exploration in that cave. There will, however, be some error in the survey as there is about 12KM of survey between the two points. It is clear though that they are very close and the new passage has a strong draught.

Secondly, the other passage just explored in Alpazat is getting close to the surface. It is 170M higher than the entrance, and about 160M below the surface. It is heading towards a valley, and if it continues along its current trend could easily break the surface. If it does, it means that explorations in this part of the cave can be continued without the hard slog up Horror Inlet and the risk of the sump filling up and trapping the team.

Tomorrow we are therefore going to scour the surface and talk to the locals in the area in the hope that a new entrance can be found.
